Cruisin' for cones

On this last day in July which has been a particularly hot month in Minnesota we take a day trip along the Mississippi and stop in Bay City, Wisconsin for ice cream. Fortunately, it's not the only spot along the river to stop for creamery refreshment so if you miss this one, don't despair.

Wisconsin 35 is our favorite day trip in the summer or fall. Fantastic images of the Mississippi and great places to stop. Have you been to Nelson's? Great pizza and ice cream!

ha, big, bad bikers like ice cream too! we have a cute little ice cream shack that is only open in the evenings, i've been meaning to take a pic of it before summer ends! love that old church in the backgroud!

Kate, my kids grew up with Nelsons! I remember buying them ice cream from the half-door that opened up directly into the creamery.

Tanya, look again at the "old church." This is the agricultural midwest and that tall white building is actually a grain elevator. What you don't see in the photo is the railroad track running right in front of it which is a very busy thoroughfare.
