Theme day: People on the Street

Just another day of the winter that would not end in downtown St. Paul.

Giants in the earth

We have been having more than our share of thunderstorms this summer. Did you read about the one in Duluth this week? Following a recent downpour I captured this gorgeous sunset at the power station on Highway 280 and Hennepin Avenue.

Z is for zoom

Look what happens when you zoom your lens in the middle of an early morning time lapse photo. St. Paul in double vision!
For more "Z" photos, see ABC Wednesday.

X is for Xcel

Can't wait to see what others do with "x." Luckily, we have this big entertainment venue right in downtown St. Paul that makes it easy for me to come up with a word for today's ABC Wednesday. To see more, click here.

Silhouettes

I am inspired by the art of Michael Schmidt who paints a lot of urban landscapes with telephone wires and water towers.

Minneapolis icon

Aren't we glad this sign, overlooking the Hennepin Avenue Bridge, never got torn down? Besides Grain Belt Beer we had Schmidt once, too.

Postcard picture

A recent walk around the St. Anthony Main neighborhood ended with this postcard view of downtown Minneapolis (covered in snow as of this past weekend).

Morning walk

We have been having some unexpectedly pleasant weather for the end of November and Twin Citians are quick to take advantage of this. Thanksgiving morning on the Stone Arch Bridge was breathtaking.

Dinkytown to downtown

We've been having some pretty fine fall days here in the Twin Cities and this view of downtown Minneapolis from Dinkytown (the commercial area near the U of M campus) is proof of that. More university views here.

Waiting

The traffic around the Twin Cities has been especially bad recently, in my frustrated opinion. Lots of construction (lots of jobs which is good) and lots of impatient drivers. This is on the Lake Street Bridge looking across from Minneapolis up the hill into St. Paul.

The theme, by the way, for this past week was based on the ABC Wednesday post - pink (even though Monday had no pink, they were technically pink flamingos).

Stop for gas

Out along the I-494 commercial strip there are plenty of neon signs advertising everything commuters and travelers need, but I like this unlit filling station sign. Final post for this week's theme. What's your guess?

Brewery on the bluff

Post number 2 for this week's theme takes us back to the High Bridge in St. Paul looking north and west along the river to the old Schmidt brewery.

Children needed

Children were playing in the first post for this week. Now, they're not to be seen. But hopefully you've figured out the theme by now.

N is for Narrow

And the third post for this week's theme. For more words beginning with "n" visit the ABC Wednesday site.

Behind the scenes

The backside of a couple of my favorite shops (Sweets Bakeshop and Izzy's Ice Cream) on Marshall Avenue. Post # 2 for this week's theme.

Off to school

The later sunrises make it easier to get up to take photos like this one from Summit Lookout Park at the intersection of Summit Avenue and Ramsay Hill.

This photo starts a new theme today. Remember to check in tomorrow for the next image.

Crossing busy Hiawatha

Walkers and bikers can safely cross Hiawatha - always busy with car traffic and light rail trains - by using this bridge named after former Congressman Martin Sabo.

Theme day: Spider's perspective

The next installment of this week's theme and simultaneously the theme day for the City Daily Photo. This spider has a great view of downtown St. Paul from the High Bridge.
