On a spookily warm later winter day (St. Patrick's Day morning to be exact) this rower was out on the long unfrozen Mississippi getting ready for what will be an extended rowing season, I suspect. The jetsam piled on the levy behind him is left from previous floods. There won't be any this year. The river is already low.

A good reminder of how powerful that river can be!
To answer the question you left on my blog: The southernmost point on the Canadian mainland (Point Pelee) is about 200 miles south of St. Paul. In fact, if you look at a map, you can see that that bit of Canada extends further south than the northern border of California.
We definitely need some more rain.
